Overview

All alumni are encouraged to remain in touch with our Department and the Faculty, and are welcome to attend all our events. Please keep any particulars updated in our Department as well as our Alumni Office.

Many of our post-graduates have gone on to pursue successful careers in the academic arena as well as in the fields of social development, commerce, education and media. In doing so, our students have made important contributions to South African society and, most importantly, to the country’s social and political transformation, among them:

  • Philip Dexter, formerly Executive Director of NEDLAC (currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow in our Department)
  • Chris Nissen, former head of the ANC in the Western Cape
  • N. Barney Pityana, Ex-Vice-Chancellor of UNISA
  • Darrel Wratten, founder and director of the Consumer Information Agency (CIA)
  • Jannie Hofmeyer, Founder and Director of Research Surveys
  • Ruben Richards, former head of the Scorpions Unit in the Western Cape
  • Agusman Armansyah, Researcher at the Centre for Multiculturalism and Inter-Religions Studies (CMIS) in Jakarta
  • Vuyisile Zenani, Project Manager, Environmental Evaluations Unit, University of Cape Town
  • Somaya Abdullah, researcher and project leader at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation
